As the map browser should have demonstrated, many hazardous was sites do not occur over principal aquifers.  Are these site of no concern?

Much of the nation relies upon small wells for household and community consumption.  These wells often tap into small surficial aquifer systems.  Surficial aquifers are usually glacial or fluvial deposits that overly the bedrock.  They are discontinuous and of limited water supply, but are important to many communities.  For example, the surficial aquifers of New York are shown on the next page.
