RESEARCH FACILITIES

Members of the faculty are prepared to supervise theoretical, experimental, and field research on a local, regional or global basis. Active sponsored research includes grants from NASA, the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Energy, and various other industries and agencies. Research facilities include modern laboratories for advanced studies in:

• geochemistry,
• geophysics,
• hydrogeology,
• invertebrate paleontology,
• remote sensing
• stratigraphy and sedimentology,
• structural geology, and
• volcanology.

The department has a graduate computer laboratory with 16 networked SUN Ultra 5 333MHz workstations that are used not only for hands-on classes and labs, but are also avaliable for geology student use on research and class projects. In addition, the department houses numerous Silicon Graphics workstations, Macintosh and PC-based microcomputers, a slidemaker, scanners, digitizing tablet/pc and a CD-burner which are available for geology student use.
