Glacial Coverage in the Northeast |
Glacial Coverage in the Northeast: As the ice moved in from the Northwest during the Wisconsinan, it depressed the land over what is now Lake Ontario. As the ice melted it formed large lakes, in which find sediments were deposited. Farther south, water flowed freely away from the glaciers, incised or widened valleys, and filled those valleys with outwash sediments composed of clay, sand, and gravel.
