Surficial Aquifers in New York State:  These aquifers consist primarily of glacial outwash sediments.  In the Western part of the state glacial outwash tends to fill pre-existing valleys leading to buried valley aquifers.  In the coastal regions and Long Island, sheet-type glacial outwash is more prevalent.  Surficial Aquifers can by highly productive and extensive, or limited and local.
