GC-IRMS

OSIBL IRMS

Trace1310 gas chromatograph, Isolink II, ConFlo IV, and a Delta V Plus IRMS. Contains both combustion and pyrolysis reactors for analysis of δ13C and δ2H of organic compounds, respectively.

  • GC is equipped with a Split/Splitless inlet and an HP-1ms column (Agilent, 30 m length, 0.25 mm ID, 0.25 um film thickness).
  • Measuring both δ2H and δ13C in a sample will be considered two separate analyses since they cannot be measured simultaneously.
  • Minimum sample mass is ~1000 ng of target compound for δ2H and ~150ng of target compound for δ13C.

EA-IRMS

OSIBL EA

Flash2000 elemental analyzer, ConFlo IV, and a Delta V Plus IRMS. Determines %C, %N, δ13C, and δ15N of bulk material. Potential samples include soil, plant tissues, and bone.

  • Ideal sample mass is ~25 mg of dry powdered material, although this may vary substantially depending on the C and N content of the sample.

*Note - our GC-IRMS and EA-IRMS systems use the same IRMS. There may be delays for processing samples on the EA whle we are running the GC and vice versa.

GC-FID

OSIBl FID

Trace1310 GC configured with two Flame Ionization Detectors, increasing throughput for quantification of known compounds.

  • Two columns are available: HP-1ms (Agilent, 30 m length, 0.25 mm ID, 0.25 um film thickness) or VF-200ms (Agilent, 60 m length, 0.25 mm ID, 0.25 um film thickness).
  • External calibration standards are available for FAMEs and saturated n-alkanes.

Picarro L2130-i CRDS

OSIBL CRDS

Analyzes the δ2H & δ18O composition of liquid and matrix-bound water samples.

  • Liquid water samples can be sent pre-filtered through a 0.22 um filter, or filtration can be performed by the OSIBL for an additional charge.
  • High salinity samples (sea water, etc.) can be processed using a salt liner for the injection port.
  • Soil water, plant water, or other matrix bound water can be analyzed via an induction module.

Dionex ASE 200

OSIBL ASE

Accelerated Solvent Extractor, quickly extracts matrix bound organic compounds. The ASE is compatible with a variety of solvent mixtures and sample materials.

  • Two sample cell sizes available: 11 mL or 33 mL.
  • Available solvents: Methylene Chloride, Methanol, Isopropanol, Hexane, Ethyl Acetate, Water, and Toluene.
