Examples of Fluvial Surficial Aquifers: Locally extensive fluvial surficial aquifers are found all across the US. In regions underlain by shallow crystalline bedrock, these features are often the only feasible source of ground water. Larger fluvial aquifers are associated with great river systems such as the Mississippi and the Rio Grande.
